WaterWise Demo Garden
Educational pamphlets and signs in the garden provide education for those who walk through the garden. At seasonal volunteer workdays Master Gardeners demonstrate sustainable methods of garden maintenance and answer questions. We also plan additional educational programs, conduct periodic observation walks for the resident elementary school and continue to serve as advisors for maintenance and improvements in the garden.
|Initially completed Fall, 2009 the garden was officially dedicated on March 13, 2010 by the Mayor of Sonoma as the Maloney Waterwise Demonstration Garden, in honor and memory of the Sonoma family of four that was killed in a tragic auto accident earlier in 2010 (Susan Maloney was a member of the Board of Directors of SCC).
The garden was designed to be a demonstration and teaching tool for the community, to show that reduced water use can go hand-in-hand with beautiful landscaping. A mere block from the Plaza, the garden is very visible to both residents and visitors.
